 HENRY WILSON BOOKS
Selling Railway Books since 1983

Home Publishers Links

Our shop at 61 Main Street, Sedbergh is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1000 until 1700. However, it is always a good idea to check before travelling any distance.

We hold a large stock of new and second-hand books, magazines, timetables, working notices, rule books, maps, guides and publicity material covering most aspects of railways at home and abroad.

Our secondhand stock changes almost daily and covers steam, diesel and electric locomotives, railcars and multiple units; carriages and wagons; signalling; track, buildings, bridges, tunnels and earthworks; operation and working on standard gauge, broad gauge and narrow gauge in the UK and overseas. Stock ranges from fine antiquarian items contemporary with the beginnings of railways to many more recent out of print titles.

We carry most current UK railway titles with an emphasis on specialist publishers such as Oakwood Press, Irwell Press and Wild Swan. Click here for a list of publishers whose books and journals we stock.

We publish catalogues from time to time and usually have lists of stock on selected topics. We are always happy to receive requests for particular books and offer a free book search service for any titles not available from current stock. In addition to our railway stock, we also sell books on related subjects such as canals and inland waterways, coastal and deep sea shipping, docks and harbours, steam road vehicles and traction engines and industrial history (particularly industries such as coal mining, iron and steel, shipbuilding, etc. which were closely associated with the railways).

In addition to selling books, we sell and exchange Book Tokens. We also offer advice and valuations for insurance and probate (valuation fees on request).

We also have a selection of our books for sale in the Dales and Lakes Book Centre, 72 Main Street, Sedbergh, Cumbria, LA10 5AD (map) a few miles from Dent on the Settle & Carlisle railway. Our books, together with those of several other booksellers, share a building with the Tourist Information Centre which is open daily from 1000 to 1700. Click here to visit the Sedbergh Book Town web site.

As well as selling books, we are always interested in buying good material in single copies or large collections.

pbfalogo We are proud to be members of the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association, the largest grouping of antiquarian and secondhand booksellers in the UK. We have many overseas customers and are happy to send large or small orders all over the world.

We accept payment by sterling cheques drawn on a London bank although VISA, Mastercard, Maestro and Delta credit and debit cards are equally welcome.
